The company looks now ready to offer it as a payment method in the continental United States, which was suggested in the Q4 FY2020 SEC filings.

Musk has also revealed how the company will transact Bitcoin, saying the Tesla vehicles operate Bitcoin nodes directly so Bitcoin paid will not be converted to fiat currency but rather retained as Bitcoin.

“Tesla is using only internal and open source software and operates Bitcoin nodes directly. Bitcoin paid to Tesla will be retained as Bitcoin, not converted to fiat currency,” Elon said in a follow-up tweet.

“Pay by Bitcoin capability available outside US later this year,” he added.
